Lawai Pottery
Lawai Pottery Village located close to Sigatoka town is where the local ladies of the village still use the age old traditional style of making clay pottery. The skill has been handed down for generations and without the use of wheels is able to form clay pots and water holders. A traditional kava ceremony of welcome will be accorded to you upon arrival and followed by a “meke iri” or traditional fan dance by the ladies. This will also be an opportunity to experience the daily life of a Fiji Islander and how they have used their traditional and cultural heritage and arts to forge a livelihood in the modern world.
Shopping Sigatoka Town
Don’t expect to see fancy shopping malls or large number of tourists. However this is the home of the salad bowl of Fiji and the small market reflects this but only on a Saturday when vendors come down from the upper valley to sell their produce. There are a few resorts located on the Coral Coast so there are a few shops where you can pick handicrafts and souvenirs, your driver will be on hand to help you get the best deals and items. Sigatoka is also a rugby crazy town and you would be lucky if a game is on at the nearby park to catch their champion stallion team in action.

Fiji’s first national park lies along the main Queens highway and is location for old archeological sites and ancient Lapita pottery site. This is a unique ecosystem and the Pacific Ocean breaking right at the foot of the dunes is a site well worth visiting. The information center will also give you the information on park activities that you can take part in like helping in the replanting of native trees.
